Fossil Exhibit at Washburn University


The fossils of a twenty-foot long Mosasaur lizard and half of a twelve-foot long Xiphactinus fish are on display under a tent at Washburn University’s Memorial Union Lawn.

Eighty-eight million year old creatures are in Topeka this week.

The fossils of a twenty-foot long Mosasaur lizard and half of a twelve-foot long Xiphactinus fish are on display under a tent at Washburn University’s Memorial Union Lawn.

This exhibit is free and open to the public today through Thursday. Attendees can help clean and extract a fossil still embedded in Kansas limestone. Sixty-five million year old shark teeth will also be given away

Fossil hunter Alan Detrich will be there talking about what life was like for these creatures millions of years ago.

Mosasaurs grew to lengths of almost 60 feet and their skulls could be six feet long.
